My name is Chiao-nan Chen. I am an associate professor in the Department of Physical Therapy and Assistive Technology at National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University in Taiwan. Prior to becoming a scientist, I was a practicing physical therapist in an acute hospital.  My research interest is to understand mechanisms underlying skeletal muscle dysfunction (atrophy and weakness) and impaired exercise capacity in individuals with aging, sarcopenic obesity, diabetics, heart diseases, and cancer.  We also investigate the effects of lifestyle intervention (exercise and nutrition) on muscle function and exercise capacity in individuals who suffered from muscle dysfunction and reduced exercise capacity.  We conduct both animal experiments and human studies based on the research topics and the feasibility of sample collection. Collectively, my research team features in combination with basic and clinical research techniques to find out the optimal behavioral intervention to improve muscle function and exercise capacity of individuals.
