Synopsis
As global temperatures rise, athletes encounter increasingly harsh environmental conditions, particularly in intermittent sports that require high-intensity bursts of effort. This is even more challenging for athletes in Southeast Asia, who frequently contend with both humid and dry heat stress during regional and international competitions. Furthermore, more research is necessary to address the paucity of thermoregulatory research on female athletes in high-intensity intermittent sports. Joel Pang, a PhD student at the University of Western Australia, will explore how different types of heat—dry versus humid—influence high-intensity intermittent performance, and its effects between male and female athletes.
